Aimed at:

Chaperoning in General Practice

Aimed at:

Health Care Assistants and administrative staff, who may be required to chaperone. This half day course has been developed in light of the Ayling report and the subsequent recommendations. It includes a workbook containing practical competencies to enable the delegate to be assessed at the practice to complete the programme.

  • What a chaperone should/should not do – acting professionally

Advanced Medical Terminology Course

Aimed at:

Health care assistants, secretaries, data input clerks, receptionists, administrative and dispensing staff who work in general practice who have already completed modules 1 and 2 medical terminology course.

Topics will include the lymphatic and nervous systems, circulation and blood, clinical imaging, notifiable infectious diseases, the eyes and skin, common tests.

Aimed at:

Staff working in General Practice, Patient Services Managers, Senior Receptionists, Dispensary Managers, Office Managers and Administrators. This two-day programme is designed to develop the role of the supervisor who has responsibility for ensuring the smooth running of the reception and/or dispensary. Its focus is on developing and equipping the delegate with good team working skills and improving their own performance at work.

Aimed at:

Registered nurses working in Primary Care. This course aims to provide an introduction to some of the more common ailments that patients often present with in a general practice setting. Nurses’ fairly new to general practice may find this course helpful.

This one day course is not designed to equip nurses to set up a minor illness clinic nor does it cover any illness or examination that would be deemed as ‘advanced practice’.

  • Anatomy
  • Common infections that effect the eye, ear, nose, throat and chest
  • Common musculoskeletal complaints such as sprains and strains

The aim of the day is to provide an introduction to some off the most common minor illnesses that regularly present in General Practice with reference to current guidelines. The interactive lectures and practical sessions will provide evidence based knowledge and the skills needed to safely assess and manage patients presenting with the most common minor illnesses relating to the urinary tract, abdomen and skin..

Delegates should leave feeling confident to deal with many self limiting diseases, be able to promote self care, effectively safety net and identify potential red flags.

Ear Irrigation Training

Aimed at:

A one day course for practice nurses and HCA’s who offer ear care and irrigation to patients. It will equip the delegate to have a better understanding of the problems associated with ear care and how to resolve them. Note: delegates will be required to identify a mentor in their practice to continue with a practical assessment sheet to gain further experience in this field. This course is suitable for HCA’s.

Delegates will need to bring a working otoscope and tips for practical examinations. Supervised practice in the delegate’s workplace is recommended after this course.
